Standard 9: Reflection and Professional Development

A teacher must be a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of choices and actions on others, including students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community, and who actively seeks out opportunities for professional growth.

Teachers need to understand the relationship between their actions and the students’ actions, as well as between teachers’ attitudes and students’ attitudes. As teachers, we are always reflecting on how we are interacting with our students, how we are teaching, and how the students are doing.  We are questioning what we could have done better.

Professional Developmental gives teachers more information, resources and skills to evaluate the outcomes of teaching and learning.  It gives teachers more support and knowledge to draw from when reflecting, revising and problem solving.
