A teacher must be able to use knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.
As a teacher, I need to use my knowledge of effective communication techniques with both my students and their parents when I share information, ask questions or collaboration. I work with a number of ELL students. I also work with students with special needs. Communication is challenging and many times needs to be nonverbal. This means I need to be sensitive and patient. I also need to foster sensitive and productive communication by and among all students in the class to create a more positive environment.
