Standard 5: Learning Environment

A teacher must be able to use an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create learning environments that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

As a teacher, how do I create comfortable, safe, effective and efficient environment for my students?  Students have different needs.  Some students need less stimulation.  Some work better in groups.  When I set up my classroom, it is important to take the needs of my students into consideration.

It is important to set up a classroom to encourage positive interaction and active learning.  Personally, I like desks and tables grouped together.  I like floor work.  I like having calm down areas in the room for times when kids need a break.  These are all things to take into consideration when looking at the students’ learning environment.
